Abstract:
Language diversity remains one of the defining sociocultural features of Africa. With over 2,000 indigenous languages spoken across the continent, communication practices in African societies are shaped by multilingualism, language policies, colonial legacies, and intercultural interactions. This study examines the influence of language diversity on communication practices in Africa using a quantitative research methodology. The paper investigates how multilingual environments affect interpersonal communication, media communication, education, governance, and business interactions. The study further explores the challenges and opportunities associated with linguistic diversity in African societies. Findings indicate that language diversity significantly influences communication effectiveness, social integration, and access to information. The research recommends inclusive language policies and multilingual communication strategies to improve communication practices across Africa.
