Abstract: Urban social transformation in rapidly developing societies is fundamentally reshaping the fabric of human interaction, shifting community dynamics from traditional primary ties to fragmented, modern secondary ties. This paper examines the sociological impacts of rapid, market-driven urbanization on community relationships, domestic structures, and social safety nets. Focusing on the dense metropolitan landscapes of the Global South, we analyze how accelerated migration, shifts from extended to nuclear family units, and economic stratification create a distinct duality: enhanced individual autonomy alongside profound urban alienation. Through a comprehensive synthesis of contemporary urban theory and empirical case studies, the study highlights how traditional kinship networks are replaced by transactional, formal systems, leading to geographic segregation and a state of anomie where formal civic institutions fail to keep pace with growth. Ultimately, the paper argues for a paradigm shift in urban planning—one that prioritizes social sustainability and the preservation of communal spaces to mitigate the psychological and structural fragmentation inherent in rapid development.
