Abstract

Self-healing polymer nanocomposites are attracting research interest because they can potentially repair certain types of damage and extend the service life of engineering materials. This study examines the development of polymer composites incorporating nanoparticles, microcapsules, reversible chemical bonds, and other healing mechanisms. It explores how material composition, interfacial interactions, mechanical properties, and healing conditions influence performance. Potential applications in aerospace structures, automotive components, protective coatings, and flexible electronics are discussed. The study also considers limitations involving repeated healing cycles, environmental sensitivity, manufacturing costs, and the balance between mechanical strength and repair capability. Advances in self-healing material design may contribute to more durable and resource-efficient engineering systems.
